We would like to invite you to listen to and speak to experts within early years education where we will be discussing the importance of our approaches to nurturing our Children in a creative way, tailoring to their needs, whilst we deliver experiences beyond the almost "what's expected of us" as pedagogues and “perceived best" of Children in education.
The conference will be hosted by Steven White and Sheetal Shah of Tiptoes Children's Nursery in Larbert.
Steven has been an education consultant in early years outdoor education for a number of years and is very passionate about children's development. He is currently also undertaking a Masters in Education with the Dundee University and has widely spoken at early years discussions both nationally and internationally. “Experienced Educator with a demonstrated history of working in the Early Years. Skilled in Educational Theory, Coaching, Early Childhood Education, Communication, and Educational Research. Strong mentor in the Early Years professional with a PGDE Outdoor Education focused in Education from The University of Edinburgh.”
Hilary Long - (Upstart Scotland) is a Trustee of the Charity Upstart Scotland and Convener of the Upstart Glasgow Network. She is a retired Early Years Educationalist who has held a variety of posts the most recent as Manager of Woodland Outdoor Kindergartens in Glasgow.
Caroline O'Neill & Karen Dickson - (Tiptoes Nursery) - Caroline and Karen are senior early years practitioners at Tiptoes Nursery. Caroline is currently undertaking SVQ Level 4 in Early Years and Karen is working towards a degree in Early Years Childhood Practice at Dundee University.
Sarah Latto - (Secret Garden Outdoor Nursery) - Sarah has been working with children in the outdoors since 2009 and she is passionate about sharing the wonders of the natural world with others. After graduating with honors in Ecology, from the university of Edinburgh, Sarah worked as Education Manager at Aigas Field Centre based in the Scottish Highlands. For three years she explored the landscapes in and around the Moray Firth with children of all ages. From pond-dipping to geography, field studies to bird identification, each day was packed full of natural history and driven by the desire to discover and explore.
In 2013 Sarah received a scholarship to study a Masters Degree in Outdoor Environmental and Sustainability Education where she conducted research on Environmental Identity and whether institutes such as Primary Schools, could have such a thing as a collective Environmental Identity. It was during this period of study that she discovered the wonders of working with the early years.
After graduating, Sarah worked with Wild Sparks Outdoor Play and was part of the team responsible for opening their outdoor nursery near Coupar Angus – Wee Wild Sparks. During this time she also started working for the Secret Garden Outdoor Nursery – Scotland’s first fully outdoor nursery. In 2017 the nursery celebrated its 10 year anniversary and continues to support children through its award winning philosophy of Presence, Nature, Play.
Sarah has recently stepped into the Care Manager role and continues to enjoy working with the children in the woods as well as taking on new challenges.
